Govt Urges Power and Fuel Austerity Amid Global Energy Uncertainty

The government on Wednesday called on citizens to conserve electricity and fuel by avoiding decorative lighting and limiting the use of personal vehicles, as uncertainty looms over global energy supplies.

The appeal comes amid concerns that ongoing instability in the Middle East could disrupt fuel imports, prompting the authorities to take precautionary steps to manage potential short-term shortages.

The government also appealed to the public to remain patient and extend full cooperation to help manage any temporary crisis.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, the secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, and the chairmen of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation and Bangladesh Power Development Board were present at the meeting.
