Farmer Card Program Approved, Pilot to Begin in 9 Upazilas Within 45 Days

The government has approved the rollout of the Farmer Card program aimed at ensuring fair access, dignity, and security for farmers across the country, with a pre-piloting phase set to begin shortly.
The decision was taken at a review meeting held today at the Cabinet Division Conference Room in the Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli confirmed the development to the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
Shibli said a four-member secretary-level committee, headed by the finance secretary, was formed at the meeting to oversee implementation of the program. Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid, State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, and State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam were among those present.
Describing the significance of the initiative, the press secretary said the Farmer Card would be more than an identification tool, calling it a symbol of farmers’ rightful entitlements, dignity, and security, where they would receive the highest priority and respect.
