Karnataka Medical Professor Suspended After Viral Mid-Class Proposal Sparks Campus Brawl

BENGALURU – A 50-year-old assistant professor at the Sri Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (SSMC) in T. Begur, Nelamangala, was suspended on Thursday, March 26, 2026, following a highly inappropriate romantic proposal made to a 19-year-old student during a live lecture. The incident, which was captured in multiple viral videos, rapidly escalated from a classroom confrontation into a violent pursuit across the college grounds. According to eyewitness accounts, the professor, identified as Abdul, interrupted his scheduled lecture to present a large carton of chocolates, claiming he wanted to celebrate a “very important girl” in the batch. He then publicly declared, “I love you,” to the student in front of her peers, further alleging that she had previously confessed her feelings to him and that he possessed “CCTV proof” to support his claims.

The student immediately and vehemently rejected the professor’s advances, challenging him to take the matter to the principal’s office. When the professor attempted to dismiss the tension by stating they would “talk tomorrow,” the student’s outrage peaked; she reportedly removed her slipper (chappal) and struck the professor inside the classroom. The situation turned even more volatile as the professor exited the building. News of the proposal spread instantly, prompting a mob of angry students to gather and chase the professor across the campus. A second viral video shows the professor being cornered near a parked vehicle, where he was physically assaulted by several male students while the female student continued to strike him with her footwear. The professor eventually managed to flee the premises in his car amid the chaos.

The college administration, which is associated with Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara, acted swiftly by officially suspending the professor pending a full internal inquiry. While local police in Nelamangala have confirmed they are aware of the incident, no formal FIR had been registered by the professor regarding the assault at the time of reporting. Authorities are currently investigating the professor’s “inappropriate conduct” and the subsequent breach of campus safety. This incident has ignited a massive debate on social media regarding professional boundaries in educational institutions and the ethics of “vigilante justice” by students in the face of alleged harassment.
