Four arrested as police bust alleged illegal LPG racket in Delhi

In a targeted crackdown, the Delhi Police Crime Branch dismantled an illegal LPG racket operating in the Sangam Vihar area of South Delhi, arresting four men and recovering 183 gas cylinders from three rented storage units.

The four accused — Sher Singh, Suraj Parihar, Raghu Raj Singh, and Jitender Sharma — were all registered delivery personnel of an authorised Indane gas agency. Trusted with distributing cylinders to households, they were instead quietly diverting them for personal profit.

Rather than delivering the cylinders to customers, the accused stored them in rented godowns in the L Block area, where they siphoned off 1 to 2 kilograms of gas from each filled cylinder and transferred it into empty ones using iron pipes, iron pokers, and weighing scales. These tampered cylinders were then sold in the open market at inflated prices.

Of the 183 cylinders recovered, 154 were filled and 29 were empty. The operation was supervised by ACP Satendra Mohan and led by DCP Rahool Alwal.

A case has been filed under Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act and Section 125/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.

Police noted that this bust is part of a wider citywide drive against LPG hoarding, amid growing public complaints about cooking gas shortages across Delhi.
