Congress Holds Emergency Meet on Pahalgam Terror Attack

New Delhi: On Thursday, top leaders of the Indian National Congress held an emergency meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) to discuss the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, South Kashmir. During the meeting, the party paid tribute to the victims and is expected to issue a resolution strongly condemning the attack.
Top Congress Leaders Attend at Akbar Road
The meeting took place at the partyโs headquarters at 24, Akbar Road, with key leaders in attendance. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, K C Venugopal, and Jairam Ramesh were among those present.
The session began with a minute of silence to honor the 26 civilians, mostly tourists, who lost their lives during the tragic incident at Baisaran near Pahalgam on Tuesday.
Party Likely to Pass Resolution Condemning Attack
Congress is expected to issue a strong resolution condemning the attack. In addition, the party emphasized the need for national unity and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consult all political parties. According to them, such coordination is crucial in fighting terrorism effectively.
Congress Stands in Solidarity With the Nation
Earlier, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah and J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. They also contacted party leaders in the Union Territory for updates. Kharge described the Pahalgam strike as a โdirect assault on the Indian State.โ
Call for Consensus and Action
Kharge further urged the government to act with full force to catch the attackers. He proposed an all-party meeting to show unity and build consensus. โWe must respond decisively,โ he said, stressing that this is not the time for political blame.
A Unified Front Against Terror
The Congress party reiterated its commitment to stand by the nation. As India grieves, the party wants to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly and that political forces stand united.
