02 June 2026: TMC Ex Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee on Tuesday led a protest in Kolkata over the alleged attacks on party leaders. These attacks include her nephew Abhishek Banerjee. But this comes a day that the police denied permission to the West Bengal opposition party to hold any protest.
Mamta Banerjee accused BJP of “rigging” the counting in 177 of 294 assembly seats to win Bengal elections reported on Tuesday by Times of India. She further added that TMC leaders are continuously under threats from the cops regulated by BJP.
She targeted the TMC rebels, saying that those who once received benefits from TMC were now acting against the party creating chaos, on Tuesday reported by Times of India. She dared the Bharatiya Janata Party” to arrest her if they want” but she would go to Delhi if protest was not allowed in Kolkata. She added that “If you don’t let me protest democratically here, I will go to Delhi. We will have an INDIA bloc meeting as reported on Tuesday by NDTV.
Abhishek Banerjee was attacked by protesters in Sonarpur on Kolkata’s southern outskirts last week. The 38-year old MP was allegedly chased, heckled and physically assaulted by a crowd while on his way to visit the family of a TMC worker who was killed during post-poll violence. During the 10 minute walk, he was punched and slapped and was publicly assaulted.
She also pointed out that 12 TMC workers had been killed since the Assembly elections and that thousands of party activists had been arrested. She declared that her protest will go on regardless of the official permission.
Responding to Mamta Banerjee’s protests, BJP clarified that those alleged attackers of Abhishek Banerjee, had already been arrested. The entire episode was orchestrated by Abhishek Banerjee himself, solely to malign the BJP and bolster his demand for enhanced security.
