‘Sanctions Boomerang’: Putin applauds India’s Defiance of Western Pressure

06 June 2026: Vladimir Putin said sanction threats against India would “boomerang immediately”, mentioning that New Delhi has always been ‘guided by its national interests’ reported by Times of India on Friday.

Putin said that India has the ability to choose the products that suit its interest and are most up to date with a best price-quality ratio.  Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India acts truly as a sovereign country and any potential threats of sanctions will boomerang immediately. India and USA are now sharing friendly relations and all the sanctions have been eliminated. 

The Russian president mentioned that the Kremlin’s cooperation with India is not subjected to the diplomatic instance, rather Moscow would stand as the true partner with commitments with countries like India. He further said that nobody can dedicate to Russia and nobody would even try to do that..”We will always stand true to our commitments given to our partners, especially like India” reported by NDTV on Friday.

Putin mentioned that “Brics has overtaken the G7” in terms of economic size, while also praising India as a “key partner” for its leading role in the IT and software industry.  Speaking at the annual St Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin praised developing countries as playing a crucial role in the overall development of the global economy, while the share of Western nations has been shrinking. The GDP dynamics of the last five years, almost half of the annual growth of 49%, is accounted for by BRICS countries, whereas the contribution of the West is estimated at 18% only.

The G7 nations are growing 1.1% per year while BRICS growth rate is 4% which is continuously growing. India’s Digital sector is playing a vital role in leading BRICS, with a remarkable share of the global software market.

The recent trends thus acts as a counter to the growing capitalism by focusing upon a swift and pragmatic change with the cooperation of the leading developing nations.
