Indian Students at Z.H. Sikder Women’s Medical College Demand Justice

At Z.H. Sikder Women’s Medical College & Hospital (ZHSWMC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Indian students are allegedly subjected to persistent academic unfairness, which has sparked grave concerns from the All India Student’s Union (AISU). In a formal plea to the college’s principal and the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, AISU called for prompt action to resolve the issue.

The AISU statement claims that several Indian students have been: • Unjustly disqualified from exams, which has caused serious academic delays.
• Placed at a persistent disadvantage by being labelled as “irregular” pupils even after passing supplemental tests.
• Missed out on organized classes, especially in the third year of employment.
• Discriminatory clearance practices were in place, particularly in the pharmacy department, where Indian students were allegedly turned away despite meeting all prerequisites, in contrast to their local peers.
• Refused access to administrative remedy, allegedly failing to recognize multiple requests for meetings with Principal Prof. Dr. Md. Rasel Kabir.

In addition to stressing the need of equitable academic treatment and open evaluation procedures, AISU, a registered non-political student organization, urged the Indian High Commission and college administration to shield students from additional discrimination or reprisals.

The letter ended, “We rely on your intervention to protect the academic rights and welfare of Indian students in Bangladesh.”
