13 Foreign Leaders Invited to Bangladesh’s New Government Oath Ceremony

The newly elected government, led by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman, prepares to take office. Heads of government from at least 13 countries have been invited to the swearing-in ceremony.

According to few reports, The oath-taking event is set for Tuesday, February 17, at the National Parliament.

Diplomatic sources have shared that the invited countries include China, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Maldives, and Bhutan. Interim government Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus personally extended the invitations to these leaders.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin will administer the oath to the newly elected Members of Parliament at 10 a.m.. Later, at 4 p.m., President Mohammed Shahabuddin will swear in the cabinet members at the South Plaza of Parliament.

Notably, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unlikely to attend in person. But he congratulated Tarique Rahman in his message posted on X – “I convey my warm congratulations to Mr. Tarique Rahman on leading BNP to a decisive victory in the Parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.This victory shows the trust of the people of Bangladesh in your leadership. India will continue to stand in support of a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our multifaceted relations and advance our common development goals @trahmanbnp @bdbnp78”.

Preparations for the new cabinet are already complete.
This event signals the end of the interim period under Muhammad Yunus and the start of governance under Tarique Rahman and the BNP-led administration.
