Identified as Rana Pratap Bairagi, a 38-year-old Hindu businessman and acting editor of the local newspaper, Dainik BD Khabar, he was fatally shot by unidentified assailants on Monday evening at Kopaila Bazar in the Manirampur upazila of Jessore district. According to police and eyewitnesses, the attackers called him away from hhis ice factory business before opening fire at close range, fattaly wounding him. He died on the spot before help could arrive.

Local police confirmed the incident and have launched an investigation, but no arrests have been reported and the motive remains unclear. Authorities are examining multiple possibilities, including local disputes, though details have not been publicly established.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-charge Rajiullah Khan said, “He was shot three times in the head and his throat was slit. Preparations are underway to recover the body and conduct a post-mortem examination”.
