DUSU Election Campaign Turns Violent in Delhi University, Professors and Students Injured

New Delhi : The final day of campaigning for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections turned violent on Wednesday evening, leaving several students and professors injured.

Clashes broke out between supporters of ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) and NSUI (National Students’ Union of India) outside the Law Centre and Campus Law Centre in North Campus.

Students from both groups have alleged that they were attacked and suffered head injuries and other serious injuries.

In a separate incident, a professor from Motilal Nehru College (Evening) was allegedly assaulted on campus by DUSU campaigners. The professor claimed the attackers were linked to the ABVP.

A student of Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (ARSD) in South Campus was also assaulted and has been hospitalised with serious injuries.

Police conducted a flag march in North Campus and South Campus to control the situation and prevent further violence.

Delhi University Proctor Manoj Kumar Singh told, “Some clashes broke out yesterday, but the situation is under control now. Security forces are present. It appears that supporters from outside the colleges were involved. If we receive a complaint, we will check CCTV footage and take action if students are found guilty.”

Election Schedule:

– Campaigning has now ended.

– EVMs are being delivered to colleges today. The dispatch started at 8 AM.

– Night patrols will continue till September 18 at sensitive points.

– Police and women constables will be deployed outside colleges on polling day.

– After voting, EVMs will be sealed and taken to the Multipurpose Hall at the University Indoor Stadium.

– Counting of votes will take place on September 19.

The DUSU elections are scheduled to be held on September 18.
