Worker beaten to death in Mymensingh for ‘insulting’ religion

A young man named Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, on charges of insulting the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The incident has created a stir everywhere. The incident took place at around 9 pm on Thursday (September 18) at the Pioneer Knit Composite Factory in Dubaliapara area of the upazila.

The deceased, Dipu Chandra Das, was a worker at Pioneer Knit Composite Factory in Bhaluka. He was the son of Ravi Chandra Das of Tarakanda Upazila of the district.

Bhaluka Model Police Station OC (Investigation) Md. Abdul Malek confirmed the matter and said that efforts are underway to bring the situation under control.

Police and local sources said that in this incident, the angry mob took the body of the deceased to the side of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, created chaos and set the body on fire. This stopped traffic on both sides of the highway. At that time, extreme tension arose in the area.

Sources said that a worker working in the factory was accused of insulting the Holy Prophet (PBUH). When the matter came to light, tension spread there. At one stage, the young man was seriously injured by the Tawheed mob. He later died on the spot.
