The ED apprehended Trinamool Congress MLA Jiban Krishna Saha for his alleged role in the state school recruitment irregularities.

The MLA from Burwan constituency in Murshidabad faced CBI arrest in 2023 on similar charges and later walked out on bail.

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on August 25, 2025, took Trinamool MLA Jiban Krishna Saha into custody for suspected corruption in recruiting assistant teachers for classes IX and X under the West Bengal School Service Commission.

He stated that when the raid began, the legislator allegedly attempted to climb over the boundary wall to get away.

“The MLA attempted to escape his house by climbing over the boundary wall after learning about the raids. Our officers and central forces gave chase and captured him in a field, his body covered in mud,” the ED officer informed PTI.

The MLA flung his mobile phone into a pond close to his house in a bid to destroy evidence, the ED official said.

“Earlier today, someone from Birbhum district accompanied the ED officials to Saha’s home,” the officer stated.

The central investigation agency earlier interrogated Jiban Krishna Saha’s wife about the school recruitment scam.

Saha was taken into CBI custody in April 2023 over alleged involvement in the case and got bail in May.

The ED previously took into custody former West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee, his alleged associate Arpita Mukherjee, and TMC MLA Manik Bhattacharya, former president of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education, among others, in connection with the case.
