Kevin Pietersen believes KL Rahul deserves to make comeback to India’s T20 side after Delhi Capitals form

Kevin Pietersen believes KL Rahul has done enough in the current IPL season to get back into India’s T20 team. Rahul plays for Delhi Capitals and has performed well. He has not played T20 for India since the 2022 World Cup. India lost to England in the semi-final in Adelaide. Since then, Rahul has stayed out of the T20 squad.

“I’d bat KL at four for India in T20 cricket. Kevin Pietersen said India has many opening batters. He mentioned Suryakumar Yadav, who also bats at the top. He said there are many options. But he praised KL Rahul’s current form. Pietersen said Rahul would be his first choice to bat at number four. He also said Rahul should keep wickets for India. Pietersen is a mentor with Delhi Capitals this season. He made these comments after Delhi’s loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

At Delhi, Rahul and Pietersen have struck up a casual camaraderie, where Rahul has constantly been pulling the former England cricketer’s leg, particularly for the tweet from KP about watching Rahul bat being like watching paint dry.

The 33-year-old Rahul was seventh at the end of the IPL 2024 season in the Orange Cap race with 520 runs for the Lucknow Super Giants. This season, having moved camps to the Delhi Capitals, Rahul has racked up 364 runs in eight innings which sees him in ninth spot. This includes three half-centuries, which included the game-winning, unbeaten 93 from just 53 deliveries against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
