Metro Girder Smashes Auto Driver in Bengaluru

In a tragic incident of Bengaluru, a 42 year old man lost his life when a metro girder fell on his autorickshaw late on April 14 night in Bengaluru.

The incident took place on the service road of Kempegowda International Airport Road near Kogilu Cross at around 12:10 a.m. As per reports, the deceased Khasim Sab had a passenger on board, heading from Chikkajala to Yelahanka and approached the spot. Meanwhile, a 35-metre multi-axle truck carrying more than 70 tonnes of girder was en route to the construction site when it approached the Kogilu Cross and attempted a U-turn, leading to the catastrophe. The Yelahanka traffic police said the trailer driver was negligent and that the girder was not fastened properly resulting it to slip.

According to an eye witness, Muhammad Adil reported that Khasim was in the driver’s seat and the passenger was paying the fare online when the girder fell. Since the passenger already stepped out, he escaped the spot without injuries while Khasim met his doom. Adil further added, “When we checked the auto, we found Khasim’s details and shared them on WhatsApp to trace his family.” The police arrived and recovered the body at around 2 a.m. An investigation is underway.
