Media to get maximum freedom with accountability: Information Minister

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said the government is committed to giving the media as much freedom as possible while setting clear rules for responsibility.

He made the statement while answering questions from reporters after attending a cheque distribution programme at Barishal Circuit House, on Friday morning.

Swapan explained that the government wants to update and modernize how the media is managed. “We haven’t fully connected with new types of media in today’s technology driven world,” he said. When the Information Ministry was first created, there was no internet or digital media. Now, with so much change, the system still needs to catch up and adapt properly.

He assured that the government will work step by step, discussing with all policymakers, to allow information to flow freely to the public.
