BNP Returns to Power After 20 Years

After two decades, The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has stormed back to state power. Party chairman Tarique Rahman took oath as the new Prime Minister on Tuesday, marking the start of a fresh and eagerly awaited chapter in Bangladesh’s political history.

The swearing in took place in an open-air ceremony at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (National Parliament Building), where President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office and secrecy to Rahman and his cabinet. Large crowds gathered to witness the historic moment.

The lineup includes 25 full ministers and 24 state ministers, plus 10 advisers holding ministerial or state ministerial rank.

The newly formed cabinet features several ministers from varied political and professional backgrounds, including former reform advocates within parties, long-time opposition figures, and technocrats.

Sheikh Rabiul Alam, the newly elected MP from Dhaka-10 (representing the BNP), has drawn significant attention for being assigned a notably heavy portfolio. He has been given charge of three major infrastructure-related ministries: Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping.

Now the Experts say the new government’s success won’t depend much on big announcements. What really matters is good management, clear plans.
