West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

‘Tughlaqi Commission! It is a matter of shame,’ says Mamata Banerjee, attacking the ECI over alleged BJP influence

“India is a democratic country; it is a matter of shame, Tughlaqi commission,” said West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday in a press conference held in Nabanna. After the Election Commission of India suspended 7 of their state officials in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee targeted the constitutional body and jabbed them as ‘Tughlaqi Commission.’ By the Tughlaqi Commission, she cited the example of the Delhi ruler Mohd. Bin Tughlaq and all his whimsical decisions.

She added that the Election Commission of India was acting under political influence directly from the BJP government, and remarked it as ‘threat culture’ and a reason for the destruction of democracy in India.

Moreover, she further added that the ECI  has shown unfair and unruly methods of electoral roll revision and urged that special tension is placed upon Bengal, in contrast to the electoral roll revision in Bihar, held recently. She mentioned that artificial intelligence was used to deduct 58 lakh names from the voter list, which clearly violated the fairness in the rolls revision process.

Opposition leader said, “It is the first time in SIR’s history that the ECI has exercised its power by suspending 7 AEROs with immediate effect. They accepted fake school certificates, PAN card, and notary affidavit, violating the 13 guidelines mandated by the ECI.”

WB CM Mamata Banerjee backed her argument on the irregularities done by the ECI, by citing examples of clear and safe elections being held in the neighbouring country, Bangladesh, urging the central government authorities to try and do the same. This statement was passed by CM Mamata Banerjee despite the fact of independent evidence showing violence, ballots being stolen, and booth capturing.

BJP leader Agnimitra Paul also said, “If you have any problem with the SIR process and ECI, please appeal to the Supreme Court, but do not call the commission Tughlaqi. This is not acceptable to us.”

TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha stated, “The BJP cannot tackle the TMC government. It will always be a win for TMC and Mamata Banerjee in Bengal.”

Mamata Banerjee also stated that if the 7 AEROs of Bengal who were suspended by the ECI were found not guilty, she will defend all of them while providing 100% protection if required.
