PM Modi Reaffirms Strategic Pivot With Malaysia, Says No Compromise on Terror

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his official visit to Malaysia, reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with the Southeast Asian nation, underlining that India would make no compromise on terrorism under any circumstances.

Holding wide-ranging talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur, the two leaders agreed to expand cooperation across key sectors including trade, investment, defence, energy, advanced manufacturing and semiconductors. As part of the visit, 11 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to institutionalise collaboration and provide a structured framework for future engagement.

Both leaders emphasised the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific region, noting its growing strategic and economic significance. 

Discussions also covered maritime cooperation, regional security challenges and the need for closer coordination in emerging technologies.

Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s firm stand against terrorism, stating that there can be no double standards in combating the global threat. He highlighted enhanced cooperation between the two countries in areas such as counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, maritime security and defence collaboration.

Malaysia, in turn, expressed support for India’s bid for permanent membership in a reformed United Nations Security Council, acknowledging India’s expanding role in global governance and international peace efforts.

The visit marks a significant step in India’s strategic outreach to Southeast Asia and reflects the growing depth of India-Malaysia relations.
