Delhi Says Bye To Dug-Up Roads – CM Rekha Gupta Approves MUD Project

New Delhi:_ Delhiites will soon get relief from the hassle of roads being dug up again and again.

The Delhi Cabinet led by CM Rekha Gupta has decided to build Multi Utility Ducts (MUD)  an underground corridor where electricity cables, water pipelines, gas lines and other networks will be laid together.

In Delhi, roads are dug separately for water, gas, electricity etc. MUD will provide a common underground route, so roads won’t need to be dug repeatedly. This will reduce traffic jams, public inconvenience and save road strength.

– A technical committee of experts from DISCOMs, DJB, PWD etc will be formed

– Design will include ventilation, fire safety, easy maintenance access and emergency response

– All utilities will run safely in one shared corridor

To start with, 2 pilot corridors in Chandni Chowk have been selected:
1.  Esplanade Road – 310 metres_
2.  Mor Sarai Road – 560 metres_
Work will start soon. Based on the results, MUD will be expanded to other parts of Delhi.

CM Gupta said this will be a long-term solution for a fast-growing city like Delhi.
