Navi Mumbai Police Detain Over 100 Suspected Bangladeshi Nationals

More than 100 Suspected Bangladeshi Nationals were detained on Wednesday after Navi Mumbai police carried out large-scale verification drive at a residential society in Kharghar, officials said. Most of those taken into custody were women working as domestic helpers.

The operation was conducted at Hyde Park Society in Sector 35, Kharghar, where police teams arrived around mid-morning and began checking the identity documents of maid and other household workers employed by residents. During the verification process, several documents raised suspicion.

Police sources said that during the initial scrutiny, Aadhaar cards produced by many of the detained individuals appeared to be linked to Bangladesh. Further checks revealed that most of them were unable to show valid documents such as passports or visas required to legally stay in India, while some had no official paperwork at all.

“All those detained have been brought to the Kharghar Police Station for detailed questioning”, a police official said, adding that investigators are trying to ascertain the reason for their stay in the area and whether they have any involvement in unlawful activities.

A resident of the society, speaking anonymously, said police officials entered the premises between 10:30 and 11 a.m. and questioned domestic workers before escorting them away for further inquiry. The operation reflects increased vigilance by Navi Mumbai Police against illegal residents and undocumented migrants in the region.
