25 August-Kolkata, India: Indian actress Neha Dhupia recently highlighted how people criticise women who become pregnant before getting married. Six months after marrying Angad Bedi in 2018, the actress gave birth to her first child.
‘A Thursday’ and ‘MTV Roadies’ star remembered her days when she was continuosly criticised for getting pregnant before marriage. In a interview, she said โI married Angad (Bedi), and after six months we welcomed our daughter [Mehr]. But the biggest conversation around our wedding was, โHow did the baby come in six months? Ye ho kaise gaya?”
She further added that “Even now, I see stories and tags on female actors who get pregnant before marriage. I feel, at least, Iโm on the same list as Neena Gupta and Alia Bhatt. But honestly, this is ridiculous.”
Neha Dhupia on motherhood
Neha described motherhood as the most “beautiful” thing a mother can experience and revealed that the Freedom to Feed platform, which encourages open dialogue about parenting, developers created as a result of the ongoing criticism and pushback.
Neha stated that “We need to normalise discussions around womenโs health instead of treating them as taboo. (I wanted) to spread awareness, break myths, and remind women they are not alone in this journey. We should not sweep these subjects under the rug. If people are trolling me for talking about things that affect half the population, then so be it. Iโm not going to stop.”
