In a moment that marks the end of a golden chapter in Indian music, legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday, April 12, at the age of 92. She breathed her last breath at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, where she had been admitted on Saturday evening earlier following health complications.

According to the reports, the singer had been undergoing treatment for extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. Doctors later confirmed that her condition deteriorated, leading to multi-organ failure.

Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news, stating that the last rites will be performed in Mumbai. He told ANI, “My mother passed away today. People can pay their last respects to her at 11 am tomorrow at Casa Grande, Lower Parel, where she lived. Her last rites will be performed at 4 pm tomorrow at Shivaji Park.”

The news of her demise comes just hours after widespread concern over her hospitalisation had gripped the nation. While initial speculation hinted at a cardiac arrest, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle had clarified through social media that her condition is linked to age-related exhaustion by a chest infection. She had urged the public and media to respect their privacy.

Earlier reports had indicated a serious health scare, prompting messages of support from across the country, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and from the bollywood industry.
