India’s dominance in chess on the world stage continues ,with India’s top-ranked Praggnanandhaa winning the UzChess Cup Master 2025

On 27th June 2025,history was created in Indian Chess. The 19 -years old Grand Master R. Praggnanandhaa won the UzChess Cup Masters 2025 title held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Praggnanandhaa defeated Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Abdusattorov .After this win ,he became India’s No.1 and No. 4 in the world rankings.

His live live rating is 2778.3,making him World’s No .4 – up three places – as he achieved his highest career ranking. This 19 years old chess player surpassed current World Champion D. Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi in his live classical rating .This win elevating him to World’s no. 4.Magnus Carlsen(2839.2) remains No.1,followed by Hikaru Nakamura (2807.0) and Fabiano Caruana (2784.2).

Praggnanandhaa started the final day a point behind local favourite Nodirbek Abdusattorov and half a point behind Javokhir Sindarov. A crucial win over Abdusattorov in the final round helped him join both players at 5.5 points at the end of the round – robin stage.

Erigaisi missed a chance to make it a four way tie after drawing with Aravindh Chithambaram .In the first round of tiebreaks ,a double round – robin blitz, all three players finished with two points.

This was Praggnanandhaa’s third title of the year ,after wins the Tata Steel Chess Tournament and the Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic in Romania.2025 is a fantastic year for him.The Indian Grand Master defeated Gukesh earlier in the year in stunning fashion to claim Tata Steel Masters 2025.He became the first Indian after Viswanathan Anand to win the title since 2006.
