Pakistan’s Countermoves Escalate After India’s Stand on Pahalgam Terrorists

Following India’s strong response to the Pahalgam terrorists, Pakistan has announced a series of harsh measures. These include shutting the Wagah border, closing airspace to Indian flights, and cancelling SAARC visas for Indian nationals.

The Indian government blamed Pahalgam terrorists backed by Pakistan for the deadly attack that killed 26 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir. In reply, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and reduced diplomatic presence in Islamabad. Less than 24 hours later, Pakistan hit back with aggressive countermeasures.

Wagah Border Closed After Pahalgam Terrorists Attack

Pakistan’s National Security Committee, led by PM Shehbaz Sharif, ordered the closure of the Wagah border. All Indians on SAARC visas, except Sikh pilgrims, were asked to leave within 48 hours. Additionally, India’s defence, naval, and air advisers in Islamabad were declared persona non grata.

Flights by Indian-owned or operated airlines are no longer allowed in Pakistani airspace. Trade between the two nations, even through third countries, has also been suspended. All bilateral treaties, including the Simla Agreement, have been put on hold.

India Holds Pahalgam Terrorists and Pakistan Responsible

India has maintained that the Pahalgam terrorists acted with support from across the border. Pakistan rejected this claim, calling it politically motivated and legally baseless. India, however, stood firm on its decision, calling the treaty suspension a message against state-supported terror.

Despite growing diplomatic tension, India continues to pursue the Pahalgam terrorists. The government has vowed that justice will be served. PM Modi earlier said that the attackers and their backers would face punishment “beyond their imagination.”
