Mumbai Indians Triumph Over SRH: Match 33 Highlights

Mumbai Indians seal third win of season with clinical four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai – April 17, 2025: Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a commanding all-round performance to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by four wickets in Match 33 of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). Chasing 163, MI reached the target in 18.1 overs, thanks to a composed all-round show from Will Jacks and disciplined bowling by the Mumbai attack.
Will Jacks Impresses with Bat and Ball
The English all-rounder emerged as the match-winner, returning figures of 2/14 in three overs before contributing a quickfire 36 off 26 balls with the bat. Jacks’ double act helped MI stay in control throughout the chase after restricting SRH to 162/5 in their 20 overs.
SRH Struggle After Promising Start
Sent in to bat, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma started cautiously but failed to accelerate. The pair stitched together a 50-run stand in 39 balls but looked out of rhythm on a slightly two-paced Wankhede pitch. Abhishek managed 40 off 28, while Head labored to 28 off 29, marking his slowest 20+ T20 score.
Ishan Kishan, facing his former franchise for the first time, was dismissed for just 2 off 3 balls by Jacks. Heinrich Klaasen (37* off 28) and Aniket Verma (18* off 8) added some late impetus, taking SRH to a below-par total of 162/5.
MI’s Chase Anchored by Balanced Batting Effort
Mumbai’s chase got off to a brisk start, led by Rohit Sharma (26 off 15) and Ryan Rickelton (31 off 23). Both looked fluent early but failed to convert. Suryakumar (26), Tilak (21*) and Hardik (21) kept the chase on track.
Despite two late wickets, Tilak Varma calmly hit the winning boundary in the 19th over.
MI Bowling Strategy Pays Off
Mumbai’s bowlers executed a well-planned strategy against SRH’s power-packed top order. Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and Jasprit Bumrah stuck to tight lines and varied pace effectively. The surface offered just enough grip to make stroke-play difficult.
MI’s plan to avoid full-length deliveries worked, neutralizing the usually aggressive Head-Abhishek duo. Bumrah (1/21) and Boult (1/29) supported Jacks’ match-winning spell perfectly.
Points Table Impact
This victory lifted MI to three wins in seven matches, helping them retain the 7th position in the IPL 2025 points table. SRH, meanwhile, slumped to ninth with just two wins from seven outings.
Match Summary:
SRH: 162/5 (Abhishek 40, Klaasen 37; Jacks 2/14)
MI: 166/6 in 18.1 overs (Jacks 36, Suryakumar 26; Cummins 3/26)
Result: Mumbai Indians won by 4 wickets
Player of the Match: Will Jacks (MI)
