Nagpur Violence: Woman Officer Molested, 51 Arrested as Violence Engulfs City

Nagpur, Maharashtra, March 19, 2025 – The city of Nagpur is facing unrest. It follows violent clashes in the old city area on Monday. Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR). It details serious allegations, including molestation of a woman police officer During Nagpur Violence.

Mob Molests Officer During Nagpur Violence

The FIR reveals shocking details. A man involved in the violence allegedly inappropriately touched a female officer. He also made obscene gestures toward other women. This includes female police personnel. The violence reportedly began around 4 pm on March 17. It continued until 11:30 pm. Sub-Inspector Jitendra Baburao Gadge filed the FIR.

Police have arrested 51 people concerning the violence. The FIR names these 51 accused. It also mentions 500-600 unnamed individuals. The accused face charges under various laws. These include the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Criminal Law Amendment Act.

Vandalism and Arson Add to Chaos

The situation escalated as the mob grew. They armed themselves with dangerous weapons. Axes, stones, and sticks were among these. The FIR states their goal was to cause fear. They aimed to disrupt social harmony. This was allegedly to increase religious tensions. The violence resulted in widespread damage.

The mob vandalized and set fire to many things. Police vehicles, traffic booths, and private cars were targeted. Even houses and construction cranes were set ablaze. Senior police officers were injured during the Nagpur violence. Niketan Kadam, Shashikant Satav, and Anita More sustained injuries.

Indefinite Curfew Imposed After Violence

Following the Nagpur violence, authorities took swift action. An indefinite curfew is now in place. It covers parts of Nagpur. Over 50 people were detained. The violence was sparked by rumors. These rumors involved the desecration of a holy book. Demands to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb also fueled the unrest. The Nagpur violence case investigation is ongoing. Sub-Inspector Venkatesh Hanmantu is leading the probe. On Wednesday, a court remanded 19 accused in police custody until March 21 for further investigation.
