Liveblog - MI vs KKR Highlights, IPL 2026: Rohit Sharma Scripts History as Mumbai Indians End Opening Game Drought

Mumbai Indians finally rewrote their opening-match narrative in the Indian Premier League 2026 season, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

Led by Hardik Pandya, MI chased down a daunting 221-run target in just 19.1 overs, marking their first win in an IPL opener in 14 years.

The chase was powered by a sensational knock from Ryan Rickelton, who smashed 81 off 43 balls, setting the tone early. Veteran batter Rohit Sharma followed it up with a blistering 78 off 38 deliveries, anchoring the innings and taking MI home in style.

In the process, Rohit achieved a major milestone, surpassing Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs scored against a single IPL opponent, adding another feather to his illustrious career.

Earlier in the match, KKR posted a strong total of 220/4 after being put in to bat. Captain Ajinkya Rahane led from the front with a composed half-century. However, the standout performance came from young debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who impressed with a fearless 51 off just 29 balls, lighting up the innings.

Despite KKR’s strong batting effort, MI’s aggressive chase proved too much, as they not only secured victory but also buried a long-standing jinx in emphatic fashion.
