Kar Medical College and Hospital on 9 August 2024. Her parents and supporters observed the day quietly but with determined calls for justice, two years after the tragic incident that shook the medical community and the nation.

The postgraduate trainee doctor, aged 32 at the time of her death, was found dead in a seminar room inside the hospital in the early hours of 9 August 2024. Her death triggered widespread protests by medical professionals and civil society groups demanding a fair and thorough investigation.

In January 2025, Sealdah court convicted Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, in the rape and murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
