EC to Deploy AI Tools to Weed Out Fake, Deceased Voters in Bengal SIR

To strengthen the integrity of the electoral rolls, the Election Commission (EC) has decided to deploy advanced AI-driven verification systems during the ongoing Special Summary Revision (SIR) in West Bengal.
The AI tools will help identify duplicate entries, fake voter IDs, and deceased voters, an issue that has long been a subject of political tension in the state.
According to the senior officials, the technology will analyse voter databases, match photographs, and flag suspicious entries for manual review by booth-level officers.
The EC believes that the use of artificial intelligence will not only expedite the verification process but also ensure greater transparency and accuracy ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
Political parties have welcomed the move but have urged the commission to ensure strict oversight to prevent errors.
Officials added that the integration of AI is part of a broader effort to modernise election management and restore public confidence in the electoral process.
