West Bengal Voter List 2026: Special Camps for Voters Left Out During SIR

The Election Commission of India has directed district election officials in West Bengal to organise special camps to help eligible voters who were left out of the electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The initiative will also focus on marginalised people, homeless residents, migrant workers and individuals living in night shelters and labour colonies.

According to reports published on October 11, District Magistrates, acting as District Election Officers (DEOs), have been instructed to arrange the camps through Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). The objective is to ensure that eligible citizens are not excluded from the voter list because of difficulties in registration or verification.

The latest directive follows an earlier instruction to begin a special drive from October 1 to facilitate the inclusion of eligible voters whose names were omitted during the revision, along with first-time voters. Election officials have also been asked to take appropriate steps to help eligible migrant workers register.

The move comes after the publication of the SIR electoral rolls in West Bengal, which led to widespread scrutiny of voter exclusions. The Election Commission has made the list of voters classified as absent, shifted, dead or deleted (ASDD) available through the website of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, and the respective district election authorities.

Eligible individuals whose names appear on the ASDD list can apply for inclusion in the electoral roll by submitting Form 6. Applications can be filed online or through the concerned Booth Level Officer (BLO), subject to verification by the election authorities. First-time voters who have turned 18 can also apply through the prescribed process.

The ASDD category covers voters identified during the revision as absent, permanently shifted, deceased or duplicate entries. However, inclusion in the list does not necessarily mean that a person is ineligible to vote. Anyone who believes their name has been wrongly classified should check the published list and follow the prescribed procedure for re-inclusion.

The Election Commission has stated that electoral roll revision is a continuing administrative process intended to maintain accurate voter records while ensuring that eligible citizens are included. The special camps are expected to improve access for people who may face difficulties reaching election offices or completing registration procedures.

The latest initiative places particular emphasis on vulnerable and mobile populations, including homeless people and migrant workers, whose living arrangements can make electoral registration more challenging. District-level implementation will be crucial to ensuring that eligible voters receive assistance and that applications are processed under the applicable rules.

Voters who suspect that their names have been omitted should first check the official CEO West Bengal website or their district election officer’s portal. They can then contact their local BLO or submit Form 6 online to seek inclusion in the electoral roll.
