The Tejas Fighter jet crashed at the Dubai Air Show, and the Pilot died

A Tejas Fighter jet of the Indian Air Force crashed during a flying demonstration at the Dubai Air Show on Friday, resulting in the death of the pilot.

The incident occurred around 2:10 pm local time at Dubai’s second Airport, where the biennial air show was underway.

Dramatic visuals from the venue showed the indigenous light combat aircraft descending rapidly before striking the ground and erupting into a massive fireball. Thick black smoke billowed over the airfield as stunned spectators looked on.

In an official statement, the IAF confirmed the loss of its pilot and posted on X says “ IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief”. A court of inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the accident.

The Dubai Air Show known for major commercial aircraft orders and defence displays was hosting participants and visitors from across the world at the time of the crash.

This marks only the second recorded crash involving the Tejas fighter jet. In March 2024, another single-engine Tejas aircraft went down near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan shortly after taking part in a tri-services exercise.

Footage of Friday’s incident has circulated widely on social media, showing the aircraft losing control moments before impact.

Authorities at the air show and the IAF are expected to release further details as investigations progress.
