Police investigating theft and murder link in Karnataka

On August 26, 2025, a routine theft investigation by Kannur police unveiled a chilling crime further south in Mysuru. The probe began when gold ornaments worth about ₹22.25 lakh and ₹5 lakh in cash went missing from a house in Kalliad village. As Kerala police pursued leads, they discovered that the owner’s daughter-in-law, Darshita, had turned up dead in a lodge in Mysuru under horrifying circumstances. The connection between a burglary and her murder is unraveling across two states.

The Theft

Investigators learned that Darshita, who lived with her husband Subhash (working abroad) and their toddler, had visited her parents in Karnataka the day of the theft. When her family could not reach her, they received calls from Siddaraju B N, identified as Darshita’s lover, assuring her return. Even as the theft case escalated, the tragic news of her death followed. Siddaraju was quickly arrested in Karnataka. Police say he inflicted a controlled blast inside her mouth, his method as disturbing as the betrayal it exposed.

Multi-State Coordination

The investigation into the Mysuru murder gained an entirely new dimension once police realized the theft probe in Kannur was not an isolated crime. Karnataka and Kerala law enforcement began sharing intelligence, which exposed a broader criminal trail that spanned multiple districts. Investigators discovered that Siddaraju B N, the prime suspect, had been moving between the two states while carefully covering his tracks. His attempts to escape scrutiny failed once surveillance data and local informants linked him back to Mysuru.

Moreover, the coordination between the Kannur and Mysuru police stations allowed officers to connect missing pieces that otherwise looked unrelated. Items recovered during the theft probe matched reports filed in Karnataka, which tightened the case against Siddaraju. This collaboration also highlighted how border crimes often exploit jurisdiction gaps, making joint action not only necessary but urgent.

From a citizen’s perspective, it is frustrating to see how criminals exploit weak links in state coordination. At the same time, it is reassuring that in this case, the police departments finally worked in tandem and cracked a crime that could have gone unsolved for much longer. The case serves as a reminder that cooperation across state lines can make or break complex investigations.
