Man Arrested for Sending 1,100 Fake Bomb Threat Emails Across India

After weeks of nationwide panic caused by fake bomb threat emails, the Delhi Police arrested a suspect in the case. Srinivas, also known as Srinivas Lewis (47), was apprehended from the Vrindavan Layout area in Mysuru, Karnataka. A laptop and multiple SIM cards were recovered from him. He is accused of sending nearly 1,100 fake bomb threat emails to various institutions across the country.

Since mid-February, threats claiming bombs in courts, post offices, passport offices, and schools had created widespread fear, though all were later confirmed to be hoaxes. The repeated emails disrupted normal operations, particularly in Delhi courts, prompting a complaint at the CEN police station and an investigation. Police said the accused, despite holding a postgraduate degree, had been unemployed for a long time and was likely suffering from depression. He lived with his mother, a retired government school teacher.
