Frustrated Alcaraz Has Heated Exchange with Umpire in Cincinnati

14 August-Kolkata, India: The rising superstar Carlos Alcaraz, known for his calm and peaceful composure, recently showed frustration with a chair umpire at the Cincinnati Open, where spectators observed him having a heated argument. The tournament’s round of 16 matchup between Alcaraz and Luca Nardi occurred on Wednesday.

Although the Spaniard won the match easily by registering a massive 6-1 and 6-4 victory, the match itself received less notice than what happened with the official.

Greg Allensworth, the umpire for the opening round set, pointed out problems with official sponsorship agreements when he asked the Spanish maestro to remove the logo on his water bottle.

The Spaniard refused to follow the instructions instructed by the umpire and and engaged with Allensworth in a heated argument before just carrying on with his water bottle as usual.

Carlos Alcaraz said that “Yeah but it wasn’t my fault,” he was quoted as saying by Express. “Why would I have to cover it when it wasn’t my fault? Because it’s your fault you’re saying I have to cover it now? No, I’m not going to cover it.”

However, the current No. 2 won the first set easily by 6-1 to showcase his brilliance, but he was in a little bit of trouble in the second set when the Italian Luca Nardi was up by 4-2. Nonetheless, the 22-year-old Spaniard showcased his magic once again and won the third round convincingly by a scorecard of 6-4.

With this win, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz will face the Russian Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open.

Alcaraz speaks on his performance

At the end of the match, Alcaraz was more concerned with his overwhelming performance than his altercation with referee Greg Allensworth.

He said, “I think this match is the best so far for me in this tournament. At the beginning of the tournament, I really wanted to improve every day, after every practice and every match. I believe I’m doing it, which makes me really proud. I’m just happy with how I felt the ball today.”
