Delhi Bans Drones, Aerial Devices Ahead of Independence Day: Violators Face Jail, Fine

New Delhi : In a heightened security measure ahead of Independence Day celebrations, Delhi Police have imposed a complete ban on the use of drones and other aerial devices across the national capital from August 2 to August 16. The move, initiated by newly appointed Police Commissioner S.B.K. Singh, aims to prevent potential threats posed by aerial platforms.

As per the official order, flying any unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), drones, paragliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, microlight aircraft, hot air balloons, quadcopters, or similar sub-conventional aerial platforms will attract legal consequences. Violators may face up to one year in jail or a fine of ₹5,000 under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

“It has been reported that certain anti-social or terrorist elements may attempt to disrupt public safety and target dignitaries or vital installations using aerial platforms,” the order stated.

Commissioner Singh, who recently took charge at the Delhi Police headquarters on Ashoka Road, held a comprehensive security review meeting on 1 August, Friday. The session was attended by all district DCPs, joint commissioners, and other senior officials. Focus areas included intensified surveillance in sensitive zones, enhanced patrolling, and deployment of bomb disposal squads, quick reaction teams, and sniffer dog units.

The order has been circulated to all police districts, tehsil offices, and key civic agencies including NDMC, MCD, DDA, PWD, and Delhi Cantonment Board.

With Delhi gearing up for the Independence Day festivities, this proactive move underscores the city’s commitment to public safety and vigilance.
