Uttar Pradesh : 11 Died After Vehicle Carrying Pilgrims To Prithvinath Temple Plunges Into Gonda Canal; CM Yogi Announces Compensation   

In a heart-wrenching incident, eleven pilgrims lost their lives on Sunday when a vehicle carrying 15 people plunged into a canal near Itia Thok Police Station in Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh. The group was on their way to offer prayers at the Prithvinath Temple when the accident occurred.

According to officials, the mishap took place early in the day. Four people, including the driver, survived the crash and were rescued by local villagers and police teams. They were immediately rushed to a Community Health Centre (CHC) for medical attention.

Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal confirmed the fatalities and said:

“Eleven bodies have been recovered. The survivors are receiving treatment. Postmortem procedures are underway at the District Hospital. Rescue and relief operations were initiated promptly, and senior health officials have been instructed to oversee the situation.”


CM Yogi Expresses Grief, Announces Compensation

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives. In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), he offered his condolences to the bereaved families and instructed officials to ensure prompt medical care and support to those injured.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh each to the families of the deceased.

“The loss of life in this unfortunate incident is deeply painful. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the grieving families. Directions have been issued to provide immediate financial assistance and ensure the injured receive proper medical treatment,” the CM posted.



He added:

“I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant peace to the departed souls, strength to the bereaved families, and a swift recovery to the injured. Om Shanti.”
