Terrorist Killed in Ongoing Anti-Terror Operation in J&K’s Kulgam

A terrorist was killed in an ongoing anti-terror operation launched by security forces in the Akhal area of Kulgam district in south Kashmir on Saturday. The operation, which began on Friday evening (August 1), continues as forces maintain a tight cordon around the area.

In an update shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps said:

“Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact. One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far. Operation continues.”



The encounter broke out after a joint team of the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) launched a cordon and search operation in the dense forest area following specific intelligence inputs about terrorist presence.

A police spokesperson confirmed the engagement, stating:

“An encounter has started at the Akhal area of Kulgam. The SOG, Army, and CRPF are on the job.”


This marks the third major encounter in Jammu and Kashmir this week, with a total of six terrorists neutralised, including those involved in the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

The identity and affiliation of the slain terrorist are yet to be officially confirmed as the operation remains underway.
