Kolkata: Man Detained for Assaulting Passenger Having Panic Attack

August 2-Kolkata, India: On Friday, the Bidhannagar Police of Kolkata arrested a passenger travelling from Mumbai to Kolkata after they saw him on camera reportedly striking someone on the same aeroplane who was allegedly having a panic attack.

What was the incident?

The incident occured on Airbus A321 flight 6E138 operated by IndiGo. Soon after, a video went viral on social media, sparking harsh responses and criticisms.

According to IndiGo’s information, the authorities immediately took the man as soon as the flight touched down in Kolkata. The airline company also highlighted the issue and stated that they filed an “incident report” on this situation, and further added that “a committee will review the incident to determine if the airline should put the passenger on a ‘no-fly’ list. The airline also informed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the matter.”

A senior member of the Biddhanagar police also commented on the situation and stated that “They detained the passenger and later released him.” While IndiGo posted the video on X and criticized the passenger for “unruly behaviour,” noting that such behaviour is “wholly unacceptable.”
