Ten Cases Cracked As Police Catch Habitual Burglar In Thane

Thane’s Naupada Police arrested 20-year-old Ganesh Gupta, also known as Ganesh Prakash Avhad, after analyzing more than 100 CCTV camera clips following a burglary in the Brahman Society area. On July 13, the accused broke into a residence during the afternoon and stole gold and silver ornaments valued at ₹7.99 lakh, reported the owner the next day. Officers worked around the clock, reviewing footage from numerous locations, and identified Gupta as moving along specific routes before executing the theft. They tracked him over two days and found him hiding near Diva’s dumping ground.

Case Crackdown

During interrogation, Gupta led police to his mother, Pooja Gupta—also known as Pooja Prakash Avhad—who had participated in many of the burglaries. The Crime Branch also recovered ornaments and cash worth ₹10.99 lakh from the two. Investigators linked him to ten separate housebreaking crimes reported across Thane, and they are pursuing further leads that may uncover a larger network.

The way the suspects altered their routes and changed their timing to evade detection shows deliberate planning. They seemed to study the neighborhood before striking. Police said Gupta had prior burglary records in the region, yet he operated with striking confidence. Their ability to commit crime amid an urban setting and avoid early detection raises questions about surveillance gaps and slow intelligence sharing among precincts.
