Telangana MLA T Raja Singh Resigns from BJP, Raises Concerns Over State Party Chief Selection

Telangana MLA T Raja Singh, known for his provocative and communal remarks, has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), voicing strong opposition to the reported selection of N Ramchander Rao as the party’s new state president.

In a resignation letter addressed to Union Minister and current state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy, the Goshamahal legislator expressed deep dissatisfaction with the leadership decision. Reports suggest that the BJP’s central leadership has finalized the appointment of Mr Rao, a High Court lawyer and former MLC, known for his previous roles in the ABVP, BJYM, BJP’s legal cell, and as Hyderabad unit chief. He is expected to be elected unopposed.

“This decision has shocked and disheartened not just me, but lakhs of karyakartas, leaders, and voters who have stood steadfast with the BJP,” Raja Singh wrote. He warned that at a crucial time when the BJP stands a real chance of forming its first government in Telangana, such choices raise concerns about the party’s direction.

Highlighting the presence of many capable senior leaders, MLAs, and MPs within the state, Singh criticized what he described as backroom manipulation by those with personal agendas, which he believes misled the central leadership and compromised grassroots efforts.

Clarifying that his move wasn’t driven by personal ambition, the three-time elected MLA said he could no longer remain silent or act as though all was well. “This letter reflects not just my anguish, but the frustration of countless dedicated BJP supporters who feel ignored and sidelined,” he stated.

He further lamented that the opportunity to bring BJP to power in Telangana was being jeopardized, not due to public sentiment, but due to questionable leadership decisions.

“Therefore, with a heavy heart, I resign from the primary membership of the BJP,” he wrote, requesting Kishan Reddy to inform the Speaker of the Telangana Assembly accordingly. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the ideology of Hindutva and pledged continued service to the people of Goshamahal and the Hindu community.

Calling his resignation a “difficult but necessary” step, Singh urged top party leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BL Santhosh to reconsider the direction the party is heading in the state. “Telangana is ready for the BJP — but only if we choose the right leadership to realize that promise,” he concluded.

G Kishan Reddy, who had been serving both as Union Minister and state BJP chief, led the party to a notable performance in the 2023 Assembly elections and the recent Lok Sabha polls. Following the NDA’s return to power at the Centre, he was reappointed as Union Mines Minister. A new state chief appointment had been anticipated for some time.
