Pakistan Launches ‘Operation Bunyan Marsoos’ in Retaliation to Indian Strikes

Background: Escalation of Hostilities
The recent surge in hostilities traces back to a militant attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 28 civilians, predominantly Hindu tourists. India attributed the attack to Pakistan-based militants and responded with Operation Sindoor, targeting alleged terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan. Pakistan reported civilian casualties from these strikes, including the deaths of 31 individuals and damage to religious sites.
Operation Bunyan Marsoos: Pakistan’s Counteroffensive
In the early hours of May 10, Pakistan’s military launched Operation Bunyan Marsoos, striking key Indian military sites. Targets included the Pathankot airfield, BrahMos missile storage facilities in Punjab, and the Udhampur airbase in Kashmir. Explosions were also reported in Srinagar and other areas, leading to blackouts and heightened security alerts across northern India.

India’s Response and Current Status
India’s Ministry of Defence has placed its forces on high alert, actively intercepting aerial threats. The Indian Air Force has reportedly engaged and neutralized several incoming drones and missiles. Airspace over parts of northern India remains restricted, and civilian flights have been suspended in affected regions.
International Reactions and Calls for De-escalation
The international community has expressed grave concerns over the escalating conflict. The United States, G7 nations, China, and Iran have urged both countries to exercise restraint and seek diplomatic solutions. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has engaged in discussions with leaders from both nations, emphasizing the need for immediate de-escalation.
Impact on Civilians and Regional Stability
The ongoing conflict has significantly impacted civilians on both sides. In India, schools and public institutions in border areas have been closed, and emergency services are on standby. Pakistan has reported similar disruptions, with evacuations in regions close to the Line of Control. The situation remains volatile, with fears of further escalation if diplomatic interventions fail.
