Ghazalnama Mushaira Illuminates Bangalore with a Night of Poetry and Nostalgia

The Bangalore International Centre came alive as Kavyamanch presented the much-awaited Ghazalnama Mushaira—a celebration of Urdu poetry that wove together tradition and modern expression.

Kavyamanch, a dynamic platform dedicated to preserving poetic traditions, nurtures voices across generations. Ghazalnama is their tribute to the timeless ghazal form, where legendary and emerging poets share one stage.
The event was sponsored by Drop D—an innovative initiative building next-generation love communes through peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, bridging social networking and isolated dating worlds.

Legends, Special Guests, and Soulful Hosting at Ghazalnama Mushaira

The evening carried the grace of literary legends. Rajesh Reddy, an icon of Urdu poetry, adorned the Mushaira as the Chief Guest. A name synonymous with the timeless beauty of ghazals, his verses have shaped generations of poets and listeners alike. His unique style has become a school of thought, inspiring many young poets to explore the depths of Urdu poetry. Rajesh’s presence at the Mushaira not only elevated the event but also reminded everyone of the rich cultural legacy of Urdu poetry. 

Dr. Shaista Yusuf, Member of the Urdu Academy Bangalore, was the esteemed Guest of Honour. A prominent figure in both literature and social reform, her ghazals have influenced many. Among the Special Guests were celebrated poet Ghufran Amjad, the Ustad of ghazal, whose poetry reflects wisdom and mastery, and his students, Dr. Arshad Jamal from the Unani School of Medicine, Bangalore, and Amir Masood. 

The evening was beautifully hosted by Charagh Sharma, a celebrated name from Jashn-e-Rekhta, whose soulful nizamat kept the audience deeply engaged. Known for his poetic grace and impactful delivery, Charagh’s presence added a unique charm to the event.

Women Poets Shine at Ghazalnama Mushaira

Once dominated by patriarchal traditions, today, the world of mushairas is witnessing a heartening change.
Patriarchy in these gatherings has come to the verge of an end — audiences now warmly celebrate and enjoy listening to female poets.

At Ghazalnama Mushaira, powerful voices like Alka Sharar, Qamar Suroor, and Aisha Ayub lit up the evening with their evocative verses.
Their poetry, filled with emotion, resilience, and deep thought, captivated the audience and beautifully reflected how women’s contributions are now not just welcomed but celebrated.
Their presence was a reminder that Urdu poetry today belongs to everyone who loves and lives by the word.

Emerging Voices Light Up Ghazalnama Mushaira

Ghazalnama Mushaira also celebrated the evolving landscape of Urdu poetry by giving the stage to a vibrant new generation.
Ananth Fani, Faiz Akram, Gaurav Abha Tiwari, Ziya Qureshi, Sifar, and Srujana Satyavada brought fresh, heartfelt emotions to life, infusing the evening with new energy.
With their distinctive styles, these poets showed that the ghazal is not just surviving but thriving, as it adapts to contemporary experiences while staying rooted in tradition.

As these young voices took to the stage, it was clear that they are not only preserving the essence of Urdu poetry but are also expanding its boundaries, bringing it into new homes and hearts. Their contributions point to a promising future for Urdu poetry—one where its beauty continues to captivate, inspire, and connect across generations.

The Power of Presence: An Audience that Stayed

Unlike typical literary events, where attendees begin to drift away after the opening acts, Ghazalnama Mushaira Bangalore kept the room full—and emotionally full—until the last verse.
The audience wasn’t just passive; it was present.

One attendee shared heartfelt feedback that touched the organizers deeply:

Behind this magical night stood the organizers: Nitin Gupta, Naincy Gupta, and Zafar Khan, whose passion for poetry made it all possible. Supporting them was Team Kavyamanch: Mukesh Bardia, Mansa Bajaj, Radhika Shah, Shivani Sharma, Vikas Singh, Rahul Tiwari, Anjuman Aara, Hashmat Jilani Bande, and Rajbir Kaur. Their tireless efforts crafted an evening that wasn’t just attended—it was experienced and remembered.

Zafar Khan, the only Bangalorean Urdu poet among them and a core member, beautifully summed up the spirit of the evening:
