JioStar Shines: Rs 10,006 Cr Revenue & 100M Paid Users for JioHotstar in Just 5 Weeks

Huge IPL and ICC Viewership Push JioStar to the Forefront; Combined Media Giant Rises Above TV and Digital Entertainment in India.
In a spectacular debut, JioStar, the just born media giant which resulted from the merger of Reliance’s media venture with Disney’s India business, has given impressive figures in its maiden earnings report. The company registered revenue of Rs 10,006 crore and pre-tax profit of Rs 774 crore, revealing the massive extent of its digital and television prowess.
The core of this rapid growth lies in JioHotstar, the combined OTT platform that came into being due to the merger between JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar on February 14, 2025. In a record-breaking achievement, JioHotstar reached over 100 million paid subscribers in a mere five weeks and became India’s fastest-growing streaming platform.
The velocity was driven by marquee sports events such as the IPL 2025 and the ICC Champions Trophy, which attracted 503 million monthly active users in March alone. The IPL 2025 broke records with 1.4 billion digital views, a 35% year-over-year increase, and a jaw-dropping 49.6 billion minutes of watch time on platforms.
JioStar’s hold on sports grew stronger with its sole TV and digital rights for IPL and other international cricket tournaments. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 became the highest-rated multi-country cricket tournament in Indian television history, with 61.2 million live viewers at its peak and leaving the 2023 ODI World Cup behind with a 23% difference in TVR.
Outside of digital, JioStar’s linear TV network took a huge 34% market share, crossing 760 million monthly viewers. The redeveloped Star Sports network now consists of 24 sports channels, with multilingual feeds enhancing regional appeal.
Entertainment also played its role, with Star Plus dominating the Hindi GEC sector and regional giants such as Star Jalsha, Star Pravah, Star Vijay, Star Maa, and Asianet holding No. 1 positions in their individual markets.
With such dominant performance across mediums, JioStar isn’t merely a mergerโit’s a media revolution.
