Assam CM Warns Against Pro-Pakistan Support Post Terror Attack

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a stern warning on Saturday. He said anyone in Assam who supports Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack will face action under the National Security Act (NSA). The announcement came as the Assam Police arrested 11 individuals accused of making anti-India remarks.
NSA to Be Invoked Against Supporters
Sarma made it clear that Assam will act tough.
“Anybody who directly or indirectly supports Pakistan in connection with the heinous attack in Pahalgam will be charged under NSA,” Sarma said.
The NSA allows authorities to detain individuals for long periods without trial, stripping away basic legal protections.
Arrests Across the State
The Assam Police have intensified their crackdown. So far, they have arrested 11 persons across various districts.
Two individuals, Baktar Hussain Barbhuiya and Mohammed Imran Hussain Borbhuiya, were arrested in Cachar district for “posting content supporting Pakistan on social media.”
On Thursday, police arrested Dhing MLA Aminul Islam for remarks they called โmisleading and instigatingโ about the attack.
Sarma named several others:
- Md Jabir Hussain (Hailakandi)
- Md AK Bahauddin (Silchar)
- Md Javed Mazumder (Silchar)
- Md Mahahar Mia (Morigaon)
- Md Sahil Ali (Sivasagar)
Later, two more arrests followed โ Md Jarif Ali from Barpeta and Anil Bania, district secretary of the Satra Mukti Sangram Parishad, from Biswanath.
The Attack That Triggered Crackdown
The move comes after militants attacked tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 and injuring 17.
According to police, terrorists asked victims’ names to identify their religion before opening fire. Almost all victims were Hindu.
This was the deadliest attack on civilians in Kashmir since the revocation of Jammu and Kashmirโs special status in 2019.
Modi Promises Swift, Harsh Response
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted strongly to the attack.
โThe punishment for the Pahalgam attack will be bigger than what the terrorists imagine,” Modi vowed.
He added, “India will identify, trace, and punish every terrorist and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth.”
