Son of Deceased Gangster Muthappa Rai, Ricky Rai, Attacked in Bengaluru
Bengaluru, April 19, 2025 – Ricky Rai, son of the late underworld figure Muthappa Rai, faced a violent assault in Bengaluru on Friday night. The incident occurred near Kazi Hotel on Lavelle Road, where businessman Shrinivas Naidu and his associates allegedly attacked him. Rai sustained a forehead injury and received treatment at a nearby hospital.
Attack Linked to Past Feud
The confrontation between Rai and Naidu appears rooted in a longstanding dispute. In October 2021, authorities accused Rai and his associates of setting fire to Naidu’s luxury Range Rover in Sadashivanagar. The act was reportedly driven by jealousy and personal differences.
Police Investigation Underway
Following the recent assault, Rai’s driver, Somashekar, filed a complaint at Cubbon Park police station. The police have initiated an investigation based on this complaint. Naidu has not filed any counter-complaint .
Background of Ricky Rai
Ricky Rai has previously been in the spotlight due to legal issues. In 2020, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bengaluru Police raided his properties in connection with a drug case involving several Sandalwood celebrities.
Ongoing Legal Troubles for Ricky Rai
This is not the first time Ricky Rai has found himself in legal trouble. In 2020, Bengaluru police raided his properties during an investigation into the Sandalwood drug case. The police believed Rai had links with individuals under scanner for drug peddling.
Rai has consistently denied any involvement. Despite his late father’s reputation, he has kept a low public profile and manages real estate interests and business dealings.

Muthappa Rai, who died in 2020, once dominated the Karnataka underworld. His alleged connections and transformation into a businessman and philanthropist often made headlines. Since his death, Ricky Rai inherited the family’s wealth—and its baggage.
Local residents and media observers suggest that Friday’s assault reflects lingering tensions from Muthappa Rai’s legacy.
“Ricky always seemed like he was trying to leave that past behind, but the name Rai still draws attention—and trouble,” said a resident of Sadashivanagar.
