Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that this reform would modernize India’s forensic system. He noted that delayed reports often block legal proceedings. To solve this, certified private labs will now supplement the work of overburdened state labs.

As a result, the investigation process will gain speed and efficiency. Many serious cases—like rape, murder, and financial fraud—depend on timely forensic analysis. This new system ensures faster results without compromising on quality.

Why Private Labs Forensic Samples Are Crucial for Faster Justice

According to officials, more than 20 lakh samples remain pending in forensic labs across the country. Overcrowded and understaffed, government labs couldn’t meet the growing demand.

Therefore, the Centre decided to allow NABL-accredited private labs to assist under official supervision. Importantly, these labs must follow strict evidence-handling rules and maintain the chain of custody. This balance of speed and accountability aims to protect both victims and the accused.

Oversight and State Role in Private Labs Forensic Samples Testing

The Centre will issue clear legal guidelines to control how private labs operate. Only approved cases will be outsourced. Furthermore, states are encouraged to expand both public and private lab capacity.
