NCB vs Maharashtra government | A complete picture

As part of their mission, NCB has been conducting raids and questioning people whose names have surfaced so far. So what does the Maharashtra state government have to do with this? These investigations were initially sparked by Sushant Singh Rajput’s sudden death, who was alleged to have committed suicide. While looking into his case, NCB found out that the drug network in India happens to include many of the late actor’s co-workers. Back then, many accused the agency of participating in a ‘witch hunt’. A year later, NCB is carrying out similar investigations once again after discovering some new names. The Maharashtra government objected to NCB’s investigation process and even demanded a probe into their charges. The state government then started to harass and ruin the reputation of Sameer Wankhede, an NCB officer who played a part in the questioning of several Bollywood actors including Rakul Preet Singh, Deepika Padukone and Sara Ali Khan.Wankhede, married to Marathi film actress Kranthi Redkar was accused of multiple charges including bribery and only getting his job due to SC quota. In fact, Nawab Malik, a member of Maharashtra’s legislative assembly and cabinet accused him of faking his religion by posting pictures of his first marriage on social media. In the latest development, Mumbai police appointed a four-member team to probe bribery charges against Wankhede. The team will be led by ACP Dilip Sawant. This intervention by the state govt seems unnecessary and suspicious as the issue doesn’t even affect them. It is also worth noting that the Maharashtra government hasn’t been able to give a justification for their demands of a probe or the continued harassment of NCB officials. Could this be a hint that the whole nexus includes not only Bollywood, but also politicians, bureaucrats and the underworld?
