Once, the liberals favourite Kerala model is now competing with other states, with the cases reporting 18000+ per day to kick upstairs. It is the highest single-day spike of cases reported on 18/04/2021 after the pandemic wave has started. The cases have begun to jump up unexpectedly after the election campaigns. On 17-04-2021, the Kerala government has imposed certain restrictions on public functions like marriage and house warming, and it is to be registered on the ‘COVID-19 jagratha portal’ in advance. Those who have not taken the vaccine should also do an RT-PCR test and go to isolation after entering the state. On the Facebook page of Kerala police, they urged people coming from other states have to be registered their details on the jagratha portal.

Recently, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and his family have tested positive, which raised the scope to the controversies. As alleged by the opposition parties, he has tested positive on 4th April but still managed to campaign on 6th April, and he later, on 8th, declared that he tested positive and then on 9th, he admitted to the hospital. But as usual, the health minister of Kerala defended him and argued that the opposition was
making controversies. Many higher health officials are demanding a lockdown, in which the health minister responded by pointing lockdown is not a solution, and lockdown can be considered only
in the containment zones.

 ICMR once lauded Kerala’s covid 19 containment strategy in May 2020. in the initial stages, the state implemented strict quarantine rules, contact tracing, identifying cluster formation and break the chain measures. Population-level exposure to covid is determined by looking into the presence of antibodies in the blood rather than the pathogen itself (serological survey ). Hon’ble Kerala governor also urged on Sunday to Vice-chancellors of various universities to postpone the exams, supported by congress MP Shashi Tharoor and opposition leader Ramesh chennithala.
