SpiceJet Flight Delays Spark Passenger Protests at Delhi Airport

New Delhi: Around 200 passengers of two Dubai-bound SpiceJet flights staged a protest at Delhi’s Terminal 3 after their flights were delayed for over 24 hours.

The affected flights are SG 5111 and SG 5105, which were scheduled to depart for Dubai on Monday morning and evening respectively. Both flights were repeatedly rescheduled, leaving passengers stranded at the airport since Monday.

According to sources, the protest began late Monday night at various spots inside T3 after passengers did not get clear information about their departure.

Delhi airport authorities have taken up the matter with SpiceJet officials.

SpiceJet Issues Statement

Responding to the disruption, a SpiceJet spokesperson on Tuesday said the flights were delayed due to “operational reasons following the grounding of an aircraft.”

“Alternate flights are being arranged to accommodate the affected passengers, and the airline is making every effort to minimise the inconvenience caused,” the spokesperson said.

The airline, however, did not share details of which aircraft was grounded.

The delay comes at a time when SpiceJet is already facing financial and operational challenges. Last week, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said the Ministry and DGCA are closely monitoring the airline’s financials and operations.

Passengers are still waiting at the airport for alternate arrangements.
